Extraction 2 Review

Netflix struck gold with ‘Extraction,’ and it is hoping for the same level of success with the much-anticipated sequel to the 2020 film, titled ‘Extraction 2’. The tough-as-nails, macho role reunites director Sam Hargrave, screenwriter Joe Russo, and the Thor actor Chris Hemsworth, but there isn’t much originality to distinguish this Extraction from the first.

There is a lot of action in the plot, some of which is however truly exceptional. The action was swift, brutal, and nearly nonstop. Chris Hemsworth keeps audiences on the edge of their seats as the action is nonstop. The most notable action set piece in this film involves a multi-pronged assault on a tall building. Rake also hangs from the sides of tall glass towers. Additionally, Nik (Golshifteh Farahani) is back and engaging in a lot more actual fighting.

The first movie’s selling point was its lengthy takes, and this one isn’t much different. With a series of action scenes lasting roughly 21 minutes, Hargrave, his cinematographer, and editors Alex Rodriguez and William Hoy simply shot a long take. And it is an exciting spectacle to watch.

In addition to excellent stunt work, this movie also has an excellent sound design. There isn’t much dialogue, and there isn’t much character development. Idris Elba, Tyler’s employer, and Olga Kurylenko, who plays his ex-wife, play minor roles in this apathetic effort to boost more views for the OTT platform.

Extraction 2 Story Line

The first film in the franchise starred Chris Hemsworth as Tyler Rake, a former Australian special forces operator who became a Black-ops mercenary. He was hired to bring the crime lord’s son back to his family in Bangladesh, and he spared no effort to do so. Audiences were on the edge of their seats near the film’s conclusion as Rake’s life was in danger after he fell into the river. However, it has been confirmed that Rake survived and is now all set to take off on another dangerous mission.

Now in the second installment, Tyler Rake retires from mercenary work to a cabin in Austria after barely surviving his previous mission. There, he is approached by a stranger named Alcott who asks him to rescue his ex-wife Mia’s sister Ketevan and her two children Sandro and Nina, who are currently being held at Tkachiri prison in Georgia along with her gangster husband Davit Radiani.
