As one enters the domestic system then she will face more challenges and the way to the National Women’s Team will get more complex. The amount of domestic or first-class tournaments played in the country for men’s cricket is more than the total number of tournaments played for women’s cricket. For men’s cricket, there are Ranji Trophy, a four-day tournament, the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, a T20 tournament, the Vijay Hazare Trophy, and a one-day tournament in their domestic season. While compared to this women’s cricket have only T20 and one-day matches, which results in a lack of match practice which affects their in-match performance.
The Women’s Senior One Day Trophy was started in 2006-07 when railways won the last edition. The Women’s Senior T20 Trophy is played by all the members of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). More than this there is also a Senior Women’s One Day Challenger Trophy which is more or less the women’s version of the NKP Salve Challenger Trophy, which was started in the 2008-09 season.
In the year 2022, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and IPL Governing Council Chairman Brijesh Patel plan to launch a T20 IPL version for the women’s team which was later named as Women’s Premier League shortly known as WPL. T20 cricket is always exciting and the most watched cricket format in India, Women’s Premier League will become the pathbreaker for women’s cricket and it will also increase the popularity of women’s cricket in India.
